The Copenhagen Democracy Summit 2022

The 5th Copenhagen Democracy Summit took place on 9-10 June 2022. Uniting democratic forces to push back on the authoritarian tide was our ambition when we inaugurated the Copenhagen Democracy Summit series five years ago with Joe Biden as our inaugural keynote speaker.

Today, as we see with Russia's invasion of Ukraine, gathering front-line figures in the battle for freedom and democracy matter more than ever. We provided a platform for such voices globally.

Thursday was dedicated to technology and democracy including our Democracy and Tech Entrepreneur Fellowship. Friday focused on how to defend Ukraine, counter authoritarian powers, and build an alliance of democracies.

Our Initiatives

Democracy Tech Entrepeneurship Fellowship

Our fellowship is established against the backdrop that all technological innovations can embrace democracy as a design and business principle.

The fellowship is a four-months virtual and in-person program that seeks to equip Democracy Tech entrepreneurs from emerging democracies with the know-how of starting and scaling successful, democratically driven ventures. The fellowship is driven by three key elements; collective learning, peer to peer mentoring, and building strong networks among entrepreneurs.

Creating an Alliance of Democracies

We aim to build a worldwide movement for an Alliance of Democracies consisting of democratic countries globally and among democratic forces everywhere.

We work actively with governments, young leaders in democratic countries as well as democracy activists from non-free societies and emerging democracies.

Democracy Perception Index

The Democracy Perception Index (DPI) is the world’s largest annual study on how people perceive democracy, conducted by Latana in collaboration with the Alliance of Democracies. The 2021 edition offers an unprecedented comparison of global attitudes towards democracy since the beginning of the COVID crisis. Results are based on nationally representative interviews with over 53,000 respondents from 53 countries conducted between February 24th and April 14th 2021.

The DPI was published ahead of the 2021 Copenhagen Democracy Summit to support the discussion on the global state of democracy.

DPI 2022

The next edition of the Copenhagen Democracy Summit will take place 13-14 May 2025.
